STUDIO

Stefan Kern Studio Gitarrist Neve Portico

This are my holy rooms for working - you could maybe also say my rock 'n' roll office.

Here I'm practising, writing songs, producing, doing mixing and mastering, videos,....I'm sure you heard some recordings/mixes/master at radio, television or social media from this holy rooms.

The heart of my studio is a british full analog class-a console, wonderful microphones and sounding outboard gear like NEVE, Universal Audio, sE Electronics or Teletronix.... In my ears analog stuff sounds way better than digital. It's more time consuming, but you approach your project with a different attitude.

Of course, this is also where my live sounds are created when I go on tour.

Over the years, I’ve constantly expanded and refined my studio to meet my own high standards. I always wanted to bring my musical ideas to life and produce my own tracks—while also being able to collaborate professionally with other producers and musicians.

The studio has a spacious control room with an analog mixing desk, and for songwriting, there’s a top-notch electronic drum kit ready to go. I’ve also got separate rooms set up for recording guitar amps, drums, and vocals—so from the very start, I’m already shaping the sound and getting the mix just right during the writing. process.

When I was 18, I got my hands on my first mic preamps from Sir Rupert Neve. Ever since, I’ve been hooked on that legendary NEVE sound—it’s become a signature part and trademark of my productions and sound over the years. Take a look at a part of this gear:

I take a pretty old-school approach to producing. For me, it’s all about capturing a great performance and getting a clean, strong signal right at the source. My DAW is often just a modern-day tape machine, since I usually rely 100% on my outboard gear.

There’s also a modded original Hammond organ with Leslie from 1974 in the studio, so I can work with organists and pianists when the vibe calls for it. That's great!

Gear-wise, I work with (and am partly endorsed by) brands like Rupert Neve Designs, NEVE, Universal Audio, Teletronix, Lexicon, Bricasti, Neumann, Sennheiser, sE Electronics, Shure, AKG, and more...thanks guys!
